We’re All Watching the Same Thing

Ten years ago, shows like “Moesha” and “Sister, Sister” ranked atop African-American TV viewing preferences. Those shows had predominantly black casts and were seldomed watched by white Americans.

Now the TV viewing preferences of blacks and whites are almost identical, according to a report released last week by Nielsen Media Research. In the 2006-2007 television season, seven shows were among the top ten viewed shows for both blacks and whites.

It seems the abundance of reality shows on TV are drawing in Americans from all different backgrounds. The top three shows for both African-Americans and whites were the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of American Idol and Dancing with the Stars.
